Tasty Tuesday – Recipes to Welcome the New Year

Just when you thought it might be over … New Year’s Eve comes sneaking up on us!  Exhausted from the whirlwind of the holiday season, we rally once more to celebrate and party and cook and feed.  New Year celebrations can be really fun – encouraging guests to bring potluck and a bottle of wine means tasting lots of different dishes and doing it without great expense to everyone attending.

For many years, I loved going out and having a divine dinner but once my munchkin came along, I became a homebody on New Year’s Eve, inviting a few close friends over to hang out and eat.

We cruised our favorite food blogs to see what everyone had on offer for New Year and I think you will be pleased (and inspired!) by the results!

Need some ideas?  Brown Eyed Baker has 60 recipes listed for New Year’s – there is no lack of inspiration here!  One of our faves is the Caramelized Onion Gruyere Tartlets – easy to make and perfect finger foods!

Bacon-wrapped scallops have been a traditional special occasion appetizer but we like the updated version from Martha Stewart and Delish – Bacon-wrapped dates!

Shrimp is also a favorite at many New Year parties – we loved the recipe from Shrimp Louis from Big Red Kitchen – we would be happy to pull up a glass!

Another version of shrimp are the Amandas from Foodies Unite curried shrimp and cheese canapes!

For a beautiful presentation, try the Rosemary Shrimp Skewers from Teaspoon Communications.

Mother Thyme has a recipe that is sure to make the whole family happy – Pizza Dip!  melted cheese, pepperoni – YUM!

If you are only having a few friends or family over for New Year’s, consider a delicious and elegant Spaghetti Alla Carbonara from la Buona Cucina.

Brunch is always a great answer to the New Year’s party – invite family and friends over on New Year’s day and raise your orange juice and mimosas to 2012!  And don’t forget a few scrumptious brunch ideas:

Parsnip Latkes with Horseradish and Dill from Smitten Kitchen

Mini Egg Frittatas with Broccoli, Cheddar and Chipotle Peppers from Cookin’ Canuck

Pumpkin Pie French Toast Bake from Picky Palate

Brownie Batter Pancakes from Skinny Taste (I wanted to lick the screen!)

Parsnip Latkes with Horseradish and Dill from Smitten Kitchen
