Talking Turkey – Tips for Thanksgiving

I can hardly believe that Thanksgiving is next week – NEXT WEEK!

Before you go into full meltdown over the main guest at Thanksgiving – the turkey – take a deep breath and keep reading.

We have every eventuality covered via the food bloggers and chefs and pros that have written everything imaginable about turkey and how to prepare it.

If you are still in a jam and can’t make your way out of the Turkey jungle, call the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line … seriously, they open a hotline every November to December that now fields over 100,000 questions in two month.  Even the calls when the turkey is on fire!

No question is too tough for these turkey talkers, and they are ready and excited to tackle any challenge you throw at them. Give them a call at 1-800-BUTTERBALL or email them at throughout November and December.

Barring a turkey emergency, we need to know where to start – The Hungry Goddess walks us through choosing the right turkey for the holidays – all the info you need about organic, heritage, frozen or fresh.

The big question always seems to be whether to brine or not to brine.  Brining is a method of marinating the turkey in seasoned, salted water to increase the moisture content of the turkey. When done properly, brining makes the meat very juicy and if seasoning is added to the brining liquid, those flavors infuse the meat as well.  If you have determined that you need to brine your turkey, Savory Sweet Life has a great description of how to brine a turkey and if you are still trying to figure out what brining means, check out Gena Knox’s Brining 101.
